The new building was constructed after the demolition of an existing flat roof building which was unsuitable for adaption. The work was carried out on a very restricted site with minimal disturbance to the school. The contractor went into liquidation part way through the contract and the building was completed by another contractor with minimal delays. The building was designed to fit in with the existing school buildings and surrounding terraced housing.
